Alienware 14 ssd upgrades

I'm a proud owner of an Alienware 14 had it quite a while now upgraded to the max with i7-4910MQ, 16GB Ram DDR3, and GTX 760M but i was wondering i already have a mSATA ssd and a 2.5 SSD and replaced the optical drive with a ODD hard drive adapter with a SSHD i went to the BIOS and saw second drive not detected it i was wondering if i can use the DMC Port or the Wireless HD Card as another msata ssd like the M14x R2 i need help before i pull the trigger buying another msata ssd

Wait....you can use the WiHD slot for an mSata? Isn't the WiHD slot an mPCIe? Is it connected to a Sata controller?

So I think you can probably use the wireless HDMI slot so you can connect a solid state drive.

well i'm thinking it should work because it works in the M14x R2 so i'm think it should fit and maybe work

i will get a cheap msata ssd and try to fit in somehow and will notify you if it'll work because i already measured it and look like a HMC size fits in perfectly or a M.2 2230 that's if i can find one eBay or Aliexpress

I'm just in the process of rebuilding an R2 do i'm going to try one of my mSata's in this slot. Thanks for the info.

These slots should only work if they are connected to a Sata controller on the board. Often they are not and are only used as a PCIe slot for network cards.

I was speaking with someone not too long ago who was running a network card from the WiDi port on his M18x. I believe they are both mPCIe slots so they can be used for either. They can also be used for an mSata SSD as the guy here is saying but only if they are connected to a Sata controller on the board. I didn't think this was the case on the M14x R2. I know it has a separate mSata slot that the R1 doesn't have so maybe this is what he was referring to. I didn't notice two ports when I pulled mine apart last night.

But this is the wireless HDMI port which is only used for wireless display projecting and not network use. I had a 15 r1 with 5 storage media’s in the bios and when I later found the laptop could be configured with 4 M.2 drives and a HDD.

So the WiHD slot in the M14x R2 is the mSata slot. There is only one slot and it works for both uses.

KingStuff huh,

Sounds a lot like Kingston.

Id stick to the second thing which is a mini pcie ssd instead of the sketchy SD card adapter.
