Hello,

A 7-Beep code relates to a CPU error. It is quite rare for an Intel CPU to fail though so a lot of the time it is a failure on the motherboard. I have had a 17 R1 that had a faulty 4900MQ though so it does happen.

There isn't a lot you can do to test other than finding a replacement CPU and seeing if it fixes the issue.

You can try a power drain just as a 'Hail-Mary' but it probably won't help in this case.

Unplug the power adapter and main battery. Hold the power button down for 30-60 seconds. Plug the adapter back in and test.

Unfortunately motherboards for the 18 are still very expensive but if you still love the laptop then it could be worth doing.

Hi @Alienboyy  please run the pre-boot diagnostics. Hold down F12 key, start the laptop, when splash screen appears wait for the next widow to appear and run diagnostics.

@crimsom  The machine doesn't get past its initial hardware check, hence the beep code. No chance to get into the BIOS or diagnostic.

Hi @mattyb3  not been in this situation myself, presume when Dell says when encountering 7 beep code Run the Dell Diagnostics is correct. Which implies that diagnostics run before POST (and the beep code). However, only @Alienboyy can say what actually happens.

I’ve seen Dell suggest this before and it’s always baffled me. I always see the same response from the customer too saying that the machine won’t post a display at all. I’m not saying it can’t happen but I’ve never seen it in my time with Alienware and I’ve had just about every beep code possible.
Will be interesting to see what happens here.
