Let's correct this error.

No, not all Intel CPUs are designed for desktops -- there are both mobile and desktop CPU lines.  Yes, Intel has lagged ARM and AMD in die design, meaning their CPUs overall aren't as power efficient as the competition's models.

The Area 51m R1 and R2 are among the only notebooks left that use desktop rather than mobile CPUs.  That's not inherently an issue if they're designed with large heatsinks and efficient fans.

That said, Dell doesn't pre-announce, but the 11th generation desktop CPUs have been available for a while -- we'll have to see what Dell does with the Area 51m design.  The current model isn't all that old in the market -- and with component shortages being rife in the industry, even if there's a third generation announced, it may be months before you can get your hands on one of them -- so if your time frame is shorter than that, you may want to consider buying a different model, or the current one.

Hi @WisdomIgnited  Intel CPUs run very hot because they are designed for Desktops. Intel CPUs also have a vulnerability and Dell is disabling overclocking. To avoid all of these Intel CPU problems, get gaming laptop without Intel CPU. The new 11th Generation Intel CPUs are now being designed for Laptops. Perhaps Intel will get their act together with their 12th Generation Intel CPUs. Will wait and see.

Strange, you say there is an error in the earlier Alienware Area-51m R3 post. Then go on to confirm that Desktop CPUs are used in Alienware Area-51m R1 and R2. The Alienware Area-51m R3 might have a desktop or mobile 11th generation Intel CPU, nobody knows for sure. The Alienware Area-51m R3 might be designed with large heatsinks and efficient fans, nobody knows for sure. The Alienware Area-51m R3 might have an Intel CPU that does not have the current vulnerability, that requires overclocking to be disabled, nobody knows for sure. ARM and AMD currently offer superior CPUs, especially for gaming. Intel publicly admits their CPU mistake and is desperately trying to match their competition. Its quite possible that there will be no Alienware Area-51m R3. We will have to wait and see.

Here's the false, verbatim:

"Intel CPUs run very hot because they are designed for Desktops."

Intel CPUs run hot because they use a relatively large die size -- not because they're designed for desktops. They do consume more power than competing chips at equivalent or higher performance levels, this is true - regardless of whether they're for mobile or desktop use.

"Dell is disabling overclocking."

Nonsense.  Intel disables overclocking on most its CPUs and has for well over a decade and a half now.  Dell has nothing to do with it.  It's under-volting that Intel is disabling  -- first with BIOS updates it pushes via system manufacturers, and now at the silicon level (most 10th generation CPUs other than the -K line, unlocked that is -- are now blocked against undervolting).  This is to address a security flaw Intel built into the chip designs - nothing Dell has done.

Dell is just the name on the outside of the system - it has nothing to do with actually making the hardware (the Alienware system in question is designed and built by Compal, the second largest notebook manufacturer in the world).

I believe that pointing out baseless, faulty information is relevant to the current discussion;  if you do not, then either do not post faulty information, or feel free to disregard my statement of the facts -- but please do not suggest that any author leave faulty information posted without a factual challenge.

If you find them so, so be it.

I'm more concerned someone might construe the false information as fact;  that's all I am pointing out.  I'd rather that than leave falsehoods unchallenged.  End of comment.

Opinion is fine;  falsehoods are not.
