Alienware laptop screen replacement
Hi!
Are there any BIOS whitelists for the screen panels in AW laptops?
I’ve heard there is some EDID data which prevents from using non-original parts (issues with dimming and/or G-sync).
But the real question is:
Let’s say if my laptop has an LG panel (LGD0690, LP156QHG-SPV1), but Dell’s P/N is HMH2Y.
If I want to replace the screen, can I buy the same model from LG, which is OEM (LGD0690) and fit it in?
So I mean it is actually the original certified LCD display model, but it doesn’t have Dell’s EDID data.
Thanks!

You're always better off with an OEM part, but the answer is yes -- you can run into compatibility problems. There are also some systems in which you cannot replace just the screen -- but rather need to replace the entire screen assembly (it is not uncommon for the screen to be glued in rather than mounted removably on newer systems -- particularly those with slim screen bezels).
Since most suppliers won't take back LCDs once you open the box, choose carefully.
