Alienware m17 R3 add an SSD
Hi, I saw a thread that states the AW m17 R3 has 1 m2 2230 slot and 2 m2 2280 slots. How do I know which slot is occupied so I know which extra hard drive I can buy? The service tag specs state the following which I'd assume means I have a 2230 hd already.
GK8NK PLT,THRM,SSD,2230,AWM15/17R3 1
2HMFM INFO,C DRIVE,PCIESSD 1
496FF SSDR,256G,P34,30S3,HYNIX,BC511 1
WJH5D BRKT,SSD,2230,TRANSFER,15/17 1

Hi @MLtx1177 Dell Community thread: New NVMe for Alienware m17 R3
The easy method is to remove base cover and look at what has been installed. Removing the base cover does not invalidate the Dell warranty. As you are going to remove base cover to install M.2 NVMe drive, this is a good introduction. A thermal shield is available from Amazon, eBay, etc.

That part number resolves to an M.2 2280 drive - not an M.2 2230.
You will want to open the system and check inside to ensure the mounting hardware is included for another drive - if it is not, you will need to order that from Dell Spare Parts.
