Alienware M18 Fan and Service Tag Problems

I have an Alienware M18 that was purchased in December 2024 as a gift. As of April 2026, its fans suddenly gave out, simultaneously and randomly. The computer had not been modified and was not under load at the time. I updated every driver, every piece of software, redownloaded everything, and eventually factory reset the laptop. This did not solve the issue. However, after I factory reset the laptop, its service tag was 1234567 rather than its actual service tag. I replaced the physical fans, which led to one coming back to life, but only up to 60% power. The others remain dead. Computer is out of warranty because the gift-giver did not pay for extended warranty

A factory reset would not change the service tag.  And the probability of more than one fan failing at the same time, coupled with that event suggests it's the mainboard that's the problem.

Power off and disconnect the main battery from the mainboard.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.  Reassemble the system - does it function normally thereafter?  If not, you will either need a shop that can do board-level repairs or to replace the system board (the latter option will be in the four figures  in dollars).

The fans not responding may actually be a result of the service tag not being programmed. If its set to 1234567, then you should be able to enter the BIOS and just enter the service tag on the Overview page. Ensure you are using the same tag that is located on the sticker on the bottom of the chassis near the I/O.
