Alienware - two with battery issues.

I have two Alienware m17” Laptops. One is probably 8 years old, the other 5. Neither is charging their batteries. Have purchased what is advertised as Genuine Dell replacement batteries and swapped, new chargers, updated BIOS, held down power buttons with no battery installed….nothing has worked.

Contacted repair people, one said faulty motherboards….probably not. When initially plugged in both show as charging but quickly stops.

Lot of $ in laptops that I can’t even sell with a clear conscience because they are nearly worthless if not charging…..HELP!

Hi @Doerr777 welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Please provide Model and Revision number of these two Alienware 17” Laptops by visiting Product Support.  Do not post your private system Service Tag or Express Service Code in this public forum.

Here are some general troubleshoot activities to get started:-

Laptops without batteries are designed to function as Desktops on ac adapter power. Is this true for both of your laptops. Does the ac adapter diagnostic LED light remain on when plugged in to their respective laptop?

When a new OEM battery arrives, it should have a white label. Check that white label has the correct DP/N for your system. Look beneath the square matrix for year/month date which should be less than six months.

If the system can boot into windows, create the Windows Battery Report

crimsom is correct. Not knowing the specific models makes it difficult to troubleshoot.

* Go back to the top of this Alienware Laptops board
* Open, "FAQ Alienware Laptops"
* Open, "Alienware Laptops naming confusion" to see models and dates released

It would probably be a DC jack issue but if it’s a specific model you can tell me for both the laptops I can recommend you a part? @Doerr777 also I recommend you do the method of Letting the laptop die, disconnecting the battery and DC jack then holding the power button for 10 seconds and then connecting the DC jack back to the motherboard and then the battery next. Plug the AC adapter back into the charging port and don’t turn it on just leave it to charge.
