Aurora A6 Horrific Clicking Noises
Regrettably, a friend suggested I purchase and Aurora A6 for our annual LAN parities. I don’t use the desktop much and I may have run this desktop a total of 48 hours in the last two years I’ve owned it. It makes this terrible clicking noise that I originally thought was the hard drive but after opening the case it actually sounds like it’s coming from the power control unit.
Looking through the forums this was not an isolated incident and I’m shocked this didn’t turn into a factory recall from Dell as this was clearly a known issue. A previous thread discussion (link posted below) was so large with “me too” they had to shut it down. The noise in the author’s video is the same exact noise mine is making. Anyone have any ideas on what the sound is and how to fix it? Needless to say I won’t be buying another Dell again

Hi @JewJitzoo welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Did not know about and never participated in an Annual LAN Party. Seemingly this Alienware Aurora A6 was not a good purchase. You had the opportunity within the first 30 days to, Reject and get a replacement or full refund. [Refunds, System exchanges]
In the OP Dell link, @Alienware-Rodrigo asked users to create new threads, so that their problem can be addressed. By creating a new thread, Alienware-Rodrigo or @DELL-Cares will be able to respond a lot faster and help user resolve this problem.
Please click on @DELL-Cares and send a Private Message requesting assistance.
Please click on Kudos to say thank you for response from user that is not employed by Dell. Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

I’m very aware that this is not Dell support. I’m posting here to see if someone in the community would know the solution to my problem as Dell support has always been outsourced and abysmal.
Your statement that I have 30 days to get a refund or replacement from date of purchase insinuates that Dell is not willing to stand behind their product. Spend $1800 dollars on a high-end desktop computer at your peril even if it’s a known factory defect, Dell isn’t willing to admit it and fix their engineering mistakes. In essence you’re saying I’m a for buying one and I’m on my own... Alienware used to be a fantastic brand.

Hi @JewJitzoo thank you for sharing update.
Be proactive and focus on contacting DELL-Cares to request assistance, or sell your system on eBay for parts.

I think you need to replace the power supply. You can actually upgrade it if needed and it might be quieter than the older one.

Thanks ALX I’m trying to avoid getting a direct replacement because I’m worried the same thing is just going to happen again. Do you know how I can search for an upgraded PSU replacement being that the original is a modular design and a extremely tight fit?
When I use the self-test button the PSU works just fine but the clicking noises from the fan is driving me nuts. I’m wondering if I could swap out just the fan?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi @JewJitzoo thank you for sharing update with additional information.
Seemingly the fan blades have been distorted and swapping out the fan is an excellent solution. When the power cord has been removed for a few days, the capacitors should have lost their charge. Remove the power supply from pc, and open its enclosure to reveal the fans. They should all have their identity labels so that their specification is known. If they have more than two connection wires, they will have onboard sensors. Get a good quality replacement fan, so it will be a long time before another replacement is required.

I have the exact same sound coming from mine, I cannot seem to figure it out either. Maybe something to do with the water cooling?
Also, I have terrible issues with getting the audio drivers to work with speakers out of the back ports, and headphones/mic out of the front. Have you had isssues?

Hi @AdrianG001 thank you for sharing update.
It seems the source of your system's noise is different. @Alienware-Rodrigo asked users to create new threads, so that their problem can be addressed. By creating a new thread, @Alienware-Rodrigo or @DELL-Cares will be able to respond a lot faster and help user resolve their problem.
Please create new thread, and then click on @DELL-Cares and send a Private Message requesting assistance.

@AdrianG001 What have you done to try and isolate the sound? Did you do anything with your power supply to make you think it the CPU liquid cooling?
@crimsom Thank you for the advise on draining the capacitors, I wasn’t sure how I was going to do that. I personally think were all having the same issue and as a community we need to figure out a fix. I don’t believe “Dell-Cares” is going to help, the last guy just sent his computer back because it was within warranty. Unless you want to pay for painfully useless advise from a “technician” who's going to say “hello my friend, fur dis one you need to replace de whole PSU and cooling system, tanks” any street corner computer repair or bestbuy geek squad you’d have better luck finding out what’s actually going on.
