Before you install any BIOS update, consider this =
* If your Laptop is running fine, a BIOS update is not a requirement

* If your Laptop is running fine, a BIOS update that does NOT address hardware is never "critical". An example would be Security Advisory

* A failed BIOS update could break the CMOS chip resulting in the need for a motherboard replacement. For any out of warranty but still functioning Laptop, ask yourself, "Do the fixes shown in the BIOS update apply to me?". If the BIOS update fails and breaks the motherboard CMOS, Dell will not replace it for free. So are the BIOS updates worth the risk?

Prior to installing a Laptop BIOS update =
* Go into the BIOS. Record onto paper the current settings in every section and sub-section. After a BIOS update, use that to cross check

Laptop BIOS update instructions =
* Connect the provided external power adapter to the Laptop
* The Laptop is not connected to any dock, external monitor, printer, USB drives, USB sound device, etc.
* Download/Save the latest BIOS file to the Windows desktop
* Close/end task all unnecessary software applications (Browsers, Dell SupportAssist, Dell Update Application, Dell Display Manager, Dell Display and Peripheral Manager, Steam, Anti-virus, etc.)
* Find the saved BIOS file on the Windows desktop
* Right click the file and choose, "Run as administrator". Note, you do not need to "extract" the file. Just run it
* Follow the prompted instructions. The Laptop will reboot on its own, do not force it
