The Soft-touch material is actually some kind of clear resin that seems to be sprayed onto the surface below. Once it becomes sticky it is very difficult to get back to original and I've never been able to find a good solution.
I have refurbished a few M14x's lately that all had sticky palmrests/lids. I just scraped away all of the soft-touch and resprayed them. There is a lot of work involved but the end result is pretty good.
Also, the M11x R2 had a painted lid while the R3 came with the soft-touch. Is yours the R3?

Try 91% isopropyl alcohol -- the 70% (more common) doesn't work.

It’s an issue with the rubberized coating in them.
try @mattyb3 solution as he’s made some pretty nice looking designs.
