m15 R1 m.2 plus m.2 addition

Question

Hello,   I recently purchased an m15 R1 that has a dell branded m.2 500GB drive.  I'm adding a 2nd m.2 the Samsung 970 EVO Plus.  I'd like to clone the original m.2 to the Samsung m.2 and set the Samsung m.2 as the boot drive.  Once this is complete and working I'd like to format the original m.2 for storage purposes.   I need guidance on cloning to ensure the 2nd m.2 has the necessary boot partition and how to enable it as the primary drive.  I'd prefer not to lose everything I have installed on the original drive with this process.   mb

I've managed to clone the drive with Samsungs software or Macrium Reflect but am overly cautious to place the clone from either software in the first m.2 slot to see if it will boot.  I have changed the configuration in the bios from Raid to AHCI and Samsung magician works and the computer still boots from the original m.2 drive.
