m15 R2, screen not turning on all the time

Less then a week old M15 R2 OLED and the screen doesn't turn on randomly when starting or waking from sleep (seems to happen more when waking from sleep vs boot).  I'd say it's about 90% of the time its not turning on the first time I try to wake it.  I know the computer is actually awake because if I hook it up to an external monitor while the screen is blank I get the Windows login.  I have to reboot or hit the power button to put it back into sleep and wake it up again 4 or 5 times before it turns on.  

If I hook it up to an external monitor there is no problem at all.  I'm hoping it's a software issue but I've re-installed windows and put on minimal alienware software (so no tobi exp etc).  

Anyone else have the issue?  I'll obviously be opening a support ticket but I figured I'd ask (search didn't yield much) before I do since it will be easier to fix myself if there is a solution.
