maybe try downloading it from the driver web page (worked for me no issues) rather than the Dell built in Dell update utility. If you use AVAST antivirus get rid of it.
Didn't try yet as the procedures a bit complicate to prepare a boot-able flash drive and download the BIOS file which I am not skillful to do. I hope a simple procedure available to update the BIOS automatically.
I just completed the steps to make the USB flash drive and copy the BIOS 1.5.0 in it. However, after I entered in the Flash Boot page by the F12 button, there is no option for me to select the USB Flash drive. So what I do next was to F2 to go into the Boot menu, under the BOOT page, no USB boot drive is available to choose.
Under the Boot List Option, the File Browser Add Boot option show this only (ACPI.../PCI.../SATA.../HD...). any suggestion of what to do next?
Below are the options available within F12 key under Other Options
BIOS Setup
Diagnostics
Device Configuration
BIOS Flash Update
SupportAssist OS Recovery
I will assume to use BIOS Flash Update key, right? Do I need to insert the USB flash drive in laptop USB slot first before hitting the button, or insert it after when it prompt?
The Dell Care told me the Alienware M15 R3 F12 key will only support UEFI boot but cannot be USB boot, and the flash inject may not be recognized. Any other good suggestion? Can believe why Dell not do the fix in the Alienware Update automatic install function but to let the customers frustrate on the problem.
I have another laptop Dell Inspiron 5593 and recently did the BIOS update, smooth and quick by the automatic Assist Setup page.
Hi @DCDellUser is Update application giving you false information? We always check in support that there is a download available for our service tag. If there is no update for your service tag, installing the incorrect update should not be attempted. Alienware m15/m17 R3 System BIOS.
Dell support are correct by telling you there is no requirement to update BIOS when there is no system problem.
You could brick your m15 R3 by stopping/cancelling the BIOS update in middle of the installation. Operating Systems are improving to try and stop this happening.
Hi @DCDellUser BIOS updates to address Intel Security Advisories will change your core CPU performance. They also prevent you going back to an earlier version. Think carefully about what you want.
The service tag is asking me to update the BIOS version 1.5.0.1.50, the current version in my laptop when I go into msinfo32 check is 1.3. This is the reason why I ask the question why using the Alienware Update function to update the latest BIOS but not successful. The BIOS update note is 'urgent'', what is the different between version 1.3 and 1.5, it is about security but what exactly it is?
Hi @DCDellUser Dell says BIOS v1.5.0 update is urgent because Dell is obligated to respond to Intel Security Advisories INTEL-SA-00295 and INTEL-SA-00347, see Alienware m15/m17 R3 System BIOS v1.5.0. If you want to know more, use the internet and search for Intel Security Advisories INTEL-SA-00295 and INTEL-SA-00347.
If you don’t care about undervolting which can prevent overheating on your model and the intel security updates then don’t update, but if you do then I’d recommend entering bios recovery after installing the bios version on a usb stick and then I’d enter the recovery mode and flash the bios accordingly.

you dont see an option in the F12 section for BIOS reflash or something like that?
The other thing is BIOS recovery which does the same exact thing incase the thing i mentioned above doesent appear in the boot options.

You can try doing a bios recovery if you cant see the option in F12 to flash the bios.
