m15 R4, 4 flashing red and 1 blue
Alienware m15 R4
I keep getting 4 Red flashes and 1 Blue and Dell doesn't seem to have a clue about their own product. Does ANYONE know what this means? Stops my laptop from charging and makes the games very bad to play. Temps keep jumping up and down and it disables my battery. This thing cost way too much money to be a piece of junk this fast. Haven't even had it 2 years yet. Anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Generally 4 Amber and 1 White indicates a bad battery and requires a battery replacement. Those genuine Dell OEM batteries can be found at Parts-People here though they appear to be out of stock at the moment. And although the system is around 2 years old, Dell support pages state that their battery life is around 1 1/2 - 2 years depending on number of charge cycles. I would also recommend running diagnostics, F12 at boot, to possibly confirm battery and adapter health.

Hi @HTXKG welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Internet search for "Dell LED code 4 Red and 1 Blue" found FIX FOR Dell Flashing Amber Battery LED (4 Amber, 1 Blue)... | [H]ard|Forum (hardforum.com). Replace "DC Power Jack USB I/O Circuit Board" fixed their problem.
The opening post says "Stops my laptop from charging ... and it disables my battery". Replacing the Alienware m15 R4 Power-adapter port (DC In Power Jack Cable) might be the fix for Alienware m15 R4's LED diagnostic code 4 Red and 1 Blue.

So nothing online helped and ended up sending it in to Dell. hopefully they fixed it and that will at least make purchasing the premium support package because it was definitely not cheap. Although it took them four hours from diagnosing to repairing it and sending it back to me so I’m a bit skeptical if anything is actually fixed. I should get it back today so we shall see.

HTX,
Did they resolve the issue? If so, do you recall exactly what they replaced?
Unfortunately, I am also having this issue, but out of warranty and their having just replaced the battery, motherboard, and several other components just under half a year ago…
I have had nothing but problems since buying this PC and will never buy another Alienware.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Update: to test the battery theory, I unplugged the power cord when this issue was replicated. The system immediately cut off.
Somehow, the system must be drawing more power than the adapter can supply or something.
I’ve never seen anything like this before, having had the laptop for two years and recently all components replaced, including the battery, yet am only now experiencing it.
Wild. Absolutely wild. On top of that, the new screen is already failing, just months after Dell replaced the entire top cover and screen, altogether.
Initially, Dell replaced it, because of dead pixels showing up, and now the new screen has dead zones at the bottom, which has progressively gotten worse over time. They’re basically lines that run across and become more apparent at higher refresh rates. I’ve been running it at lower refresh rates to get more life out of the panel, but it’s spreading to the lower rates.
Problem after problem, incessant… I feel cheated after everything I paid for this laptop.
So, the battery is failing, the screen is dying, and there’s a new sound issue on top of that (Dell just replaced the speakers for another similar sound issue that had no such simple fix). The sound occasionally cuts out, whether you have speakers or headphones in. The only way to get the sound back is to plug and unplug headphones in or completely shutdown the laptop for a reboot. Yet, somehow it all magically passes the diagnostic hardware tests!
Honestly, I will probably never buy another Dell product ever again. Even the repair centers are shoddy. When they first repaired my laptop, they sent it back to me with broken hinges, bent heat sink out of alignment with the airflow/exhaust ports, several irreparable dents and bends in base cover and corresponding airflow grate, and black grease smeared all over the laptop.
Like, what is going through these people’s heads when they decide such is suitable to return to a customer? It’s absolutely not okay.
This has been a nightmare experience, especially considering I’m a full time student who cannot simply depart from my electronics for a week or two, back to back, sending the laptop off in this kind of back and forth for over a month or two.
All of this is so absurdly ridiculous that it feels like intentional planned obsolescence. There’s absolutely no excuse for all of these problems on an M17 R3 that cost nearly $5k USD retail. That’s nearly a third the price of a new car, yet here we are.

Hello there,
I hate to hear you are having those issues!
as like you I spent way to much money on this laptop for it.
I sent my laptop in TWICE - Replaced the battery, the motherboard, the fans and a new adapter. The problem still persists! None of what they have done has fixed it! I have asked and asked that they send me a new laptop
I refused to renew my warranty because it literally got me nothing but days without my laptop only for it to come back to me still unusable. I am now constantly posting on social media and their twitter and support pages as I saw it was mentioned by other users with problems to try that way. If all else fails I will be contacting my banking institution to reverse the charge. I have more than enough documentation and chat logs showing that this PC has been defective and they have yet to fix it or replace it with something that works. And my bank is very good about protecting its customers especially if you provide them with documentation. Perks of a military friendly bank I suppose. I feel for you, especially as a student! No one should have to waste that kind of money and by waste I mean spend it on something you don't get an equal return on. I don't abuse my laptop or download a bunch of suspicious programs or anything like that, its just TRASH.
Good luck to you
