m15 R5, QHD screen is oversaturated and too vibrant

I just received the new alienware m15 r5 but the colors are oversaturated and way too vibrant.

I have a datacolor spyder 5 calibration tool but somehow the calibration doesn't give a good result at all. I don't know what to do at this point and I can't imagine I'm the only one facing these issues.

I like to do photo editing and 3D designs and the colors are very important for me and right now is really off.

Any help?

This works even better. Start with this if you think your screen is too vibrant and over-saturated: https://pcmonitors.info/articles/taming-the-wide-gamut-using-srgb-emulation/

I had to turn on and off the ‘Color Temperature Control’ again and it fixed my issues.

And if you want to go a step further, you can open de NVIDIA-configuration and select to only use NVIDIA GPU voor your screen graphics (instead of Optimus).

When I did this the results of screen color instantly improved. But the best thing is; my calibration with Spyder 5 pro also worked as a charm all of a sudden. I now finally have my Alienware M15 R5 correctly calibrated.

I hope this helps someone because I couldn't find much information on this topic myself.

Hi @Denizzz  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Datacolor spyder 5 calibration tool says it will calibrate your monitor in under two minutes. With SpyderX, monitor calibration happens so fast you won’t even consider skipping it, and your colours will always be as accurate as possible.

Are you complaining because you have failed to understand how to use this calibration tool correctly?

I'm not complaining about my calibration tool. I have used the Spyder 5 pro many times on monitors and laptops and never had a problem with it.

My complaint is about the QHD screen that comes out of the box over saturated and too vibrant (especially the red colors, but also greens). It's far off. I want to fix that.

So I tried to fix it by calibrating myself with the spyder 5 pro. I never had problems with calibrating but in this case my calibration with Spyder 5 gives a very bad result, even worse than without calibrating. I don't know why.

And I can't imaging I'm only one with an oversaturated screen. I hope there is a good solution.

If anyone is experiencing the same problems; this helped me a lot (provided by supprt from Dell):

Calibrating the settings on Radeon settings, see the link: http://del.ly/6608yOzjA.

Wow that’s great. This should be noted for anyone doing calibrations on these laptop revisions.

I always will say that NVIDIA cards are better at callibrating then just integrated graphics since you can’t really control too much.
