m15 R6, not powering on, #2

I got a refurbished M15 R6 back in December. Today (February 26) it has refused to turn on. The LED panel on the back of the screen is blank, as is the Alienware logo by the keyboard, which leads me to think the battery is empty. I have tried holding the power button for 40 seconds, and holding the power button + FN for 40 seconds, but to no avail. Do I need to get a tech to take a look at it?

There's a similar thread that indicates yes, I will need one, but I was wondering if anyone had something to add before I call. Thread in question is here.

I was able to get my PC working again by draining the batter (my mouse has a light on it, but it took a few days). Everything seems to be working fine now.

Hi @Edmond_Dantes welcome to this user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell support.

The Dell refurbished Alienware m15 R6 laptop's battery should be good, because the laptop is only three months old, and battery still under first year warranty.

For the typical user, noticeable reduction in run time generally will be observed after 18 to 24 months. For a power user, reduction in run time generally may be experienced within 18 months. Dell recommends buying a new OEM laptop battery when the run time does not meet your needs. Dell Laptop Battery - Frequently Asked Questions | Dell US

Please disconnect all peripheral connections, so that only the ac adapter is connected to the laptop.

Laptop without battery is designed to function as Desktop powered by ac adapter. Does the ac adapter's power lead diagnostic LED work before and after plugging into the laptop's dc-in port? Does the diagnostic LED change in colour? If diagnostic LED does not shine after plugging into laptop, ac adapter is not charging the battery.

Dell are reluctant to ask user to remove Base Cover and disconnect the battery because the m15 R6 battery cable is taped to the battery and the cable is easily damaged. (Removing Base Cover does not invalidate the Dell warranty). The Dell Service Manual says (carefully) remove battery cable and disconnect the battery. When the battery is disconnected, does the Laptop function as Desktop powered by ac adapter?

There is a blue light on the AC cord itself, but no light on the laptop when it is plugged in currently, I suspect that might be the problem. I would rather not disconnect the battery myself, as I don't have any screwdrivers, and I am not very good at maintenance. That being said, even with the power cable plugged in, the laptop will still not power on.

Thanks for the reply.

I have the same problem as well. I only bought my r6 like a month and half ago (in December), and whenever I move the laptop to a new location its the same problem. I've been looking into BIOS logs ever since it booted up after the error and I've come across a line that says "Power On- Not Applicable". It sometimes also does the screen test where it flashes like black white red blue green etc. I am due a booking with the technician who was supposed to come on Friday (26/02/2022) but nobody ever called me. I will update this once they actually visit me and diagnose what's wrong. I usually try and try and try just close the lid then open it again, then press the button again and if I am lucky it should be working within 10 mins, but I know times it took 4 hours.

Hi Crimsom, the issue only happens if I shut the system, unplug cables and pack the computer into my bag and move it to a new location, thus I am not certain as to how to make sure dell person can guarantee the fix. However, I will just take their contact number or request them to keep the call open so I can contact them if something happens for the next week or so. I might as well just ask them to send me a new one.

Hi @firat_metin if moving the laptop lid is the temporary fix, it suggests that screen cable is not correctly captivated and this requires physical intervention. Hopefully the Dell assigned Contractor will fix this fault. Dell guarantees 100% the repair undertaken by their Contractor, who may never have repaired a Dell laptop. Make sure that Contractor demonstrates they have fixed laptop before they leave.

Hi @Edmond_Dantes thank you for sharing update. The battery is not being charged and has no charge to power laptop. The laptop should still function as Desktop powered by ac adapter. It seems that either or both ac adapter and laptop has a fault and requires new ac adapter and laptop repair. Please visit your online Dell account and create Service Request. As laptop continues to have Dell warranty, please click on @DELL-Cares, and send Private Message requesting assistance.

Hi @firat_metin  POST System-diagnostic lights codes are Here. Evidently m15 R6 keeps automatically running How to Run the LCD Built-in Self-Test on a Dell Laptop | Dell US. Does the screen have a fault?

Please run F12 Dell's ePSA hardware test. Resolve Hardware Issues With Integrated and Online Diagnostics (SupportAssist ePSA, ePSA, or PSA Error Codes) | Dell US

I just checked the light codes, as 2,7 states I have a display failure. However, when the computer initially boots with the screen at times I get another Power On -  Not Applicable error code in the BIOS Log for power and nowhere has an answer for that.

At the moment, the backlit logo and the led stripes first light up in the rainbow and then goes into my initial color setting after a while. Meanwhile no keyboard input is allowed on the system. The second I get it to boot up, I will be running diagnostics.

Thank you for your suggestions.
