m15 R6 randomly bricks, doesn't power on

My son's m15 R6 is having issues where all of a sudden, it won't turn on. No lights, no alien glow, no anything. Tried hitting power button for a minute, etc, plugging/unplugging, nothing.

After a bunch of research (as as noted on a related thread), I discovered that opening the backplate, disconnecting the battery connector for a few seconds, and connecting it again solves the issue. Thought that would be the end of it but it keeps happening. Now its happening at least once a week or so. At the worst times too. My son will be at school and needs to take a test on his laptop and it just won't turn on.

I'm in the process of updating all the BIOS and whatever other recommended updates (as of December 26, 2022) so hoping that may help. Other than that, what else can I do? Of course this all started happening once my warranty expired. Does it make sense to renew the warranty so this can be addressed by Dell? What permanent solution to this issue is there so I don't have to keep unplugging and plugging my battery?
