* Go HERE
* Scoll down and click "Show All"
* Click "CATEGORY"

* Install your specific Cherry or Per Key firmware
* Then install the generic combination firmware

@DELL-Chris M Thank you so much. I installed this driver and the keyboard now works correctly, including the mute key. It was definitely not a hardware problem.

AWCC6 has been identified as the cause of damage to this component. Two weeks ago, my M15R7 upgraded from AWCC5 to AWCC6, and as a result, the mute key stopped working. Neither downgrading the BIOS nor replacing the keyboard helped. The engineer replaced the component "PART# H5R89" to get the mute key working again.

@A.Cooper What exactly is this component, can't find specific informations about it? My M17 R5 is out of warranty since one month but in germany they can be blamed for damages within 2 years but I must proof, that it was there fault.

Hi all,

The team is aware that this issue is affecting many users. They are currently working on a long-term fix.

For now, please use the mute on the taskbar (when tapped the volume mute button becomes white with an x next to the speaker).

@moepmanauto

Sorry, I'm only getting back to your question now.

I was lucky that the engineer who repaired my laptop had encountered the same issue in his previous case. He tried replacing the keyboard, motherboard, and even resetting the system, but nothing worked. Eventually, he found out that the problem stemmed from a chip between the keyboard and motherboard malfunctioning due to an update in AWCC6. Simply replacing that component restored the mute key.

@DELL-Nat M

The AWCC6 update has caused the mute key to malfunction for many users. Currently, this issue seems to only affect Alienware users, and it's happening consistently after updating to AWCC6. It's evident that the update process of AWCC6 is causing the mute key malfunction. Regardless of whether users still have warranty coverage, you should repair this issue or provide free replacement of the damaged components for users.
