m15 R7, connecting two monitors
I have one monitor connected directly, leveraging the HDMI port on the m15 R7. I attempted to use a Dell Dock to connect a second monitor. It worked very briefly and then the dock stopped being detected when plugged in via USB-C port. I contacted Dell support and they indicated that not even Dell Docks work with this laptop, however to install a second external monitor, I would simply need to purchase the Dell USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. I purchased this adapter and it does not work at all.
Now I know the USB-C port still works as I can plug other USB-C devices into it, however I cannot seem to get a second external monitor to work for my life. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? I bought the laptop with the expectation I could connect two external monitors to it. Thanks in advance for help.
Note: All drivers are updated and all windows updates have been applied.

Hi @dmxsmith welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Does your Alienware m15 R7 have a DisplayPort 1.4 port at the rear?

Do your external monitors have the following?
*Compatible video or graphics card (GPU) with DisplayPort 1.2 port
*DisplayPort 1.2 MST-capable monitor
*Latest video or graphics card (GPU) drivers

Thank you Crimson. Yes I have the DisplayPort 1.4, it is exactly as displayed in the link that you provided.
My monitors do not support daisy chaining. As mentioned, I have one monitor plugged directly into the HDMI port available on the back of my system and the second plugged into the USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter that Dell Support indicated was the way to connect a second external monitor. There does not seem to be any effect for using the adapter mentioned above.
I am hoping someone has found a way to get two external monitors connected successfully, as I have yet to figure out a way. Thank you so much and thank you again Crimsom for your message.

I'm using two LG Ultra Wide monitors on M15R7, but, I'm using this guy:
DOCK STATION DELL UNIVERSAL D6000
You also can try a cheaper solution like these adapters, but the performance is horrible:

Thank you Luis. I have actually tried both of those and neither are working. That was how I had started off, thinking it would work for sure. When I spoke to a Dell support rep, they said those should not actually even work. The M15R7 was not designed or tested to work with those devices. So the fact they are working for you is really great. Thank you so much for your message.

For some reason, whatever you loaded as images won't appear. I see just triangles in their place.

Hi @dmxsmith there is a short delay to allow moderator to determine if images can be released for publication in public forums.
Please provide link(s) to your two external monitor's specifications. Thank you.

My two monitors are:

However, I have also tried to Dell monitors that I brought home from the office to see if that would make a difference. Neither worked.

Sorry for my stupid question, but I need to know. Are you using Windows 11, right?

Not a stupid question at all. I am definitely using Windows 11.
The Dell dock I was using was the Dell Docking Station - WD19S 180W. I did not use the D6000 as you did. The WD19S is newer. When I spoke to Dell Support, they indicated that there are no docks that are supported or tested with the M15R7. So I am at a bit of a loss. I have already spent a decent amount of money on things to try. I also tried the Dell Speakerphone with Multiport Adapter - MH3021P which plugs into the DisplayPort1.4 on the back and then has an HDMI port on it. This unit works to provide all of the audio capacity, however it does not provide the video capacity. That does not work.

Right... When you plugged the dock, the windows recognized this? The drivers are installed?
Have you tried plugging in the dock, plugging in your monitor, turning it on, then going into the windows display settings and changing the "show only on X" option?
It appears to be a software problem.
PS: Don't spend any more money on it. For now.

So I just spent time on the line with Dell Support AGAIN. What a joke this experience has become.
Anyway, they have indicated that even though the Product Page clearly states:
"3. Type-C Port (Includes USB 3.2 Gen 2, Display Port 1.4, and Power Delivery (5V/3A) capabilities –Thunderbolt™ 4 & USB4® available on configurations with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 graphics and above)"
And this suggests that Thunderbolt 4 is an available configuration with the GeForce 3070, it also suggests that the port will function as USB-C and DisplayPort. I have just learned from Dell Support that this is not the case. That with the 3060 graphics card and above, it operates ONLY as a Thunderbolt 4 when it comes to supporting displays. They have indicated there is NO OTHER WAY to connect a second monitor other than using a Thunderbolt 4 cable.
I shared this post with them and that it was clearly working for others to use differing connections to plug a second monitor in. They told me this was not supported and the system will not work. So, after being told by Dell support to buy the Dell USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, so that I can successfully connect the second monitor and after waiting 3 weeks for that adapter to arrive only to find out it does not work at all. I now have to go through the hassle to ship it back to get my $59.99 back and so I can then go out and get a Thunderbolt 4 to DisplayPort cable, so that I can actually connect the monitor. I guess we will see if this solutions works or if it is just another run around.
Thank you to Luis and to Crimsom. I sincerely appreciate your willingness to try to help me with this. I will post once I have the cable and if it works or not.

hi,
i bought a docking station, and then plugged one monitor into the laptop's HDMI, and then one into the HDMI of the docking station.
The docking station is the Dell WD15 Monitor Dock
I also spent ages messing around with various solutions, and this was the only that worked for me. Hope it works out for you.
