m17 R2, Wake on Lan?
I am trying to get Wake on Lan working. I have activated the feature in the Killer 3000 Ethernet driver. But the BIOS doesn't seem to support it. Can someone confirm there is no Wake on Lan support for this computer?
If, as I suspect, it's true there is no support, that surprises me greatly for a premium laptop. The Ethernet definitely supports it. It disappoints me there appears to be no support in the BIOS.

Hi @VA1DER thank you for sharing update.
My old Alienware 17 R5 (4/16/2018) appears to accept the Wake On LAN (WOL) troubleshooting best practices | Dell US fix, but do not want to enable WOL option. Postulate your old Alienware m17 R2 (7/01/2019) should also accept this troubleshooting WOL fix.

Hi @VA1DER thank you for sharing update.
Wake-On-LAN (WOL) does not work when the system is running on battery. This is by design.
Have a look at Wake On LAN (WOL) troubleshooting best practices | Dell US. Hopefully this provides the fix.

Hi @Crimson, thank-you so much for the reply.
I saw that knowledgebase article and the Super User answer. Unfortunately, the m17 r2 doesn't have power options in the BIOS, and there is no "deep sleep" setting to disable.

Hi @VA1DER welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
How to setup Wake on LAN on your Dell System | Dell US.
According to a post from randye007 on a Dell forum and a Dell knowledge base article, you need to enter power options and disable "Deep Sleep". Once that's disabled, the option to enable Wake on LAN will appear.
How do I enable wake on LAN in the Alienware BIOS - Super User.

I got it to work.
There is no "power management" settings in the BIOS, and no WOL setting as the WOL Troubleshooting page talks about. There is a setting to allow the USB to wake the computer, and that appears to have to be enabled. The rest of the instructions seem applicable.
Thank-you so much for the assistance. WoL is fantastic, my beloved M17R2 isn't getting any younger, and I can now sleep it when I go somewhere and know I can turn it on remotely if I need anything from it.
EDIT: The other half of the issue I was having, in case anyone else runs into it, is I was using Linux's "wakeonlan" to try and wake it up. By default it will try and send to the global broadcast address, 255.255.255.255, but that doesn't necessarily work when run on a device with many interfaces (like a router). Best to use "etherwake" and specify the ethernet device explicitly, or if using 'wakeonlan' to specify the correct interface's local broadcast rather than let it use the global.
