m17 R3, two tone single beep whilst running

I have an Alienware m17 R3 laptop that’s making a random single beep. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason when it occurs, it’s purely random. I’ve updated the BIOS, and performed a diagnostic test, everything checks out fine. I’ve tested everything using AWCC and again, everything checks out fine.
it’s a peculiar beep because it has two tones to it, and it does it while the unit is running. The sound it makes is a sort of “DeeDoop”.

I can’t find information on it anywhere, everything I find deals with beep codes during POST or when something isn’t working properly, but everything seems to be fully functional and it just occurs so randomly. For example, today it beeped once at 10:02 am and then again at 10:36 and once more at 11:14. I don’t use the laptop for gaming, in fact I’ve never played a single game on it. I use it for the processing power for charting, so I never strain the system by any stretch.

I did do a stress test and the laptop froze with a white screen and I have yet to run the test a second time until I can get me information. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi @Kalisaen  thanks for sharing Windows Reliability Monitor's output.

Deleting Dell's AWCC (and OC Controls) application is rubbish and does not remove all of its legacy files. Please use Revo Uninstaller Free and its advanced scan to remove the old AWCC, Restart (not Shut Down), before installing the AWCC update.

Error Lookup: Code 0x80248007 =  FACILITY_QUIC_ERROR_CODE (0x01). However, an internet search should give plain English information and the fix.

Killer DBWM driver is probably not working all the time because driver option to switch off when not being used has been enabled. Please disable this feature.

Hi @Kalisaen that is very strange, thank you for a good opening post to your thread.

Please press and hold down F12 when Alienware logo splash screen appears. In boot menu window, look for and run Diagnostics ePSA Pre Boot System Assessment Dell Overview (Official Dell Tech Support) - YouTube

Please run Check Disk to find and automatically fix any file errors on OS(C:) boot drive. Disk Error Checking: How to run CHKDSK in Windows 11/10 (thewindowsclub.com)

Please share update on what you find. Thank you.

I hope I can help @Kalisaen !

What you need to do is a hard reset:

Hold the power button for 15 seconds after the laptop AC adapter is disconnected then after the laptop shuts off, plug it back in.

If that doesn't work, then I recommend trying the stress test again to see if it crashes during the ePSA.

Remember the ePSA test may freeze the system when running the CPU stress test so don't think it crashes because the screen froze. Wait 15 minutes after to see if it's still frozen or not.

Kalisaen,

Clarify. Do you have the 2011 M17x R3 or the 2020 m17 R3?

I have the 2020 version, my apologies, I didn’t know there was another version. This is my first Dell/Alienware product.

I’ll test this this afternoon and reply with the result. In the interim, is there a specific cause of this beep provided by Dell?
I’ve recorded the beep if anyone would like to hear it, I’m just not entirely sure about how to post it here.

Hi @Kalisaen !

There should be an option to upload a video on the DELL community forums and its right next to the camera icon!

I'm currently running all the tests as we speak. I'll try to get the audio file uploaded today after I figure out how to trim and send an iPhone voice memo to my PC.

Hi @Kalisaen  thank you for sharing update. Did you run Windows Reliability Monitor to create timeline of events? Can you recall the date and time of two tone single beep occurrence, to see if same event is reported on each occasion?

I did perform this after updating the BIOS, But I’ll perform the task again and reply back with the results.

Hi @Kalisaen !

How did everything work out for you? Did the video manage to upload?

I performed both and both checked out fine. I'm including a copy of the results, One that I performed prior to seeking help and one after the recommendation. IMG_8890.jpg

I performed the ePSA test again and received the same results as before. Afterwards, I performed a disk scan for errors, but nothing turned up. I also performed the stress test using the Dell website and it once again resulted in a white screen. The peculiar thing is the task bar was missing, but I use two external monitors and the task bar appeared on the external monitors and I could use it as normal, thus the pc wasn't locked or frozen. However, when I opened Firefox, it wouldn't load my previous session/tabs. I rebooted, opened my browser again and everything loaded properly.

I assume a number of things could be interfering, So I'm going to attempt the test once more but I'm going to change my sleep mode and use Internet Explorer.
