m17 R4, BIOS confusion
Hello,
Just received my first Alienware device - m17 R4 (3080, i7). This is my first time updating a bios ever. I did indeed do the bios install and Dell's site does not suggest any additional updates as available.
I want to make sure I understand this - the bios on my system reads as: Alienware 1.2.0, 1/27/2021.
However, the documentation online suggests the release date was 3/8/2021.

Hi @Ibanez012003 welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
The m17 R4 BIOS version 1.2.0 should have been correctly installed. BIOS updates must be installed incrementally, one at a time, so that all new functions are available, see video for the Dell process. If too many update versions are skipped, the system could get bricked.
At splash screen, hold down F12 and run (ePSA) Diagnostics to test and confirm integrity of the BIOS (see video).

Yep - I think the misunderstanding I'm having is that the post update I am seeing this: BIOS Version/Date Alienware 1.2.0, 1/27/2021
Instead I was expecting what you listed: Version 1.2.0, 1.2.0 Category BIOS Release date 08 Mar 2021

It is not uncommon for new systems to arrive with a BIOS that hasn't yet been released as an update for systems already in the field. It was released as an update for those systems after it went into systems being manufactured and shipped.
The release number changes when a BIOS is updated. Even if the date is different, if the release number is the same, so is the firmware code.
