m17 R4, power brick, LED no light

Question

Hi! Can anyone help me with my issue? I unplugged my Alienware M17 from an outlet and pulg it in a different one then the LED light does not turn on and no power delivery on my laptop. Laptop is brand new and not even 3 months I would say.

My problem was solved by Dell customer support. I believe it is still covered by warranty since my m17 R4 is less than a year.

They send me a new power brick to address the issue with no cost.

I think the problem from your end is from the laptop itself. Might be good to contact customer service to do their diagnostics. Hope this helps.

Thank you. So I was using my Alienware m17 r4. And its wroking great. I unplugged it from the socket and plugged it back in but no power and no light on led indicator.

Not sure about the Alienware m17 R1 problem with ac adapter. (1) Is this, plug into different mains sockets and LED diagnostic light does not work. (2) Is this, plug into mains socket, LED diagnostic light works, but LED diagnostic light stops working when plugged into laptop? (3) Other.

Yes, i was using my Alienware M17 r4 then unplug it from the socket. I plugged it back and the led indicator is not working. No light. No power being delivered on my laptop. Thank you

Hi @gapfrey1388 thank you for sharing update.

The ac adapter contains a microprocessor that is designed to protect the laptop from damage. The ac adapter is the least expensive part to replace. Advocate replace ac adapter or borrow from colleague to see if original ac adapter has failed.

I'm in a similar situation to OP here, except my issue is number 2. My brick works fine when I plug it into the wall, and the light comes on, but upon plugging it into my laptop there is a distinct click and the light goes out.

That means there's a short in the notebook. Check inside all the USB port for bent pins -- that's one common place the short can occur. Also check the DC jack for a broken pin inside.

Failing that, if it's not soldered to the system board, replace the DC jack -- if that doesn't solve the issue, the problem is on the mainboard, which will need to be replaced.
