M17x R4, unable to access any programs?
To out this simply let's to bullet points
- Tried to reset laptop since it was slow and fps problems
- It was failing to reset so used some antimaleware called Restoro, used Safe mode and sfc/scannow
- Reset laptop
- New problem with other user appearing for log in
- Used safe mode again and disabled and enabled negantc or whatever it was called
- Allowed access to admin and set a password to log in
- Logged into admin account with limited options.
- Screen appears as taskbar with windows symbol, magnifying glass, histogram thingy.
- Taskbar includes on right hand side sound symbol w/ red X. No wifi symbol. Desktop symbol with red X
- Unable to use the windows symbol or search box with either right click or left click
- Unable to open wifi to check network properties or adaptors.
- Created a new user with admin properties but when logging in got black screen with just cursor
- Ended explorer.exe and got back screen, and re ran the windows.exe task.
- Able to fix the black screen issue but still unable to access anything
- As of now the only usable programs are Command Prompt and Task Manager.
Has anyone had this problem before and if so how do you fix this, it feels impossible and I am unable to find any way to resolve this
If it helps laptop is Alienware M17x R4

I would reinstall Windows using Microsofts Media Creation Tool. If there is data you want to keep on the OS drive then I would suggest to get a brand new 2.5" SSD and install the OS on that. Once you get Windows working you can put your old drive back in the machine and retrieve your data. If you can access your data then transfer everything you can over to an external drive first and then you can use your original drive. If you have Microsoft Office installed, make sure it is linked to a Microsoft Account and you should be able to reinstall it later.
The easiest way to do a clean install is by running the program on the machine you want to install Windows on but if you can't access the internet then you can use an 8gb (or larger) USB drive and download the tool from other computer onto the USB. Then just stick the USB in your R4 and open the boot menu on startup (F12). Select the USB and it will start the Installation.
I do regular clean Windows Installations to keep my old machines running fast.
