Odd Alienware Graphics Amplifier Behavior

I have a M17 R1 along with an AGA, sporting the MSI Duke GTX 1080ti.  I've used this AGA and card with an older 15R3 without any problems.  So, here's the odd issue; the onboard RTX 2070 MQ that the M17 has will occasionally take over GPU duties from the AGA.  Specifically, the title No Man's Sky, the RTX is available as the primary display adapter and refuses to let the AGA take over.  Even more puzzling is that my monitors are plugged into the AGA and when I use any performance monitoring software, it's clear that the laptop GPU is passing through the AGA to the monitors (pegged at 99% use, AGA GPU is idling).

I've tried using the Nvidia control panel and set the global variable to only use the high performance GPU.  Seeing as how the system clearly detects both the GTX 1080ti and RTX 2070 MQ, that doesn't do much.  Also, I don't see this behavior in all the games I play (which could point to it being a coding issue with NMS).  Now, I've also noted that the M17 R1 does not have an AGA specific driver and I suspect it's been bundled in the AWCC.

My question to the community, has anyone else run into this and what do I need to do to fix it?
