Will Installing Custom-made Heatsink Void Warranty

Hi, just a few questions here. I have seen the post "Will Repasting with Liquid Metal Void the Warranty" and know that the warranty is not voided unless the laptop is damaged as the result of the liquid metal application.

1. Does the same applies to installing custom-made(potentially have water cooling capability) heatsinks without damaging/affecting the laptop chassis? Will it not void warranty unless broken the laptop?

2. Also wondering if selling alternative (more powerful than original) heatsinks compatible with Alienware laptops could cause legal issues, or how they can be avoided in general.

@terrylu7121  It's pretty standard that modifications will void warranty coverage for any issues that could plausibly have been created as a result of installing or using that modification.  Note that the standard is "plausibly".  Dell wouldn't have to PROVE that your custom heatsink caused a problem in order to deny coverage.  They'd just have to show that the problem COULD have been caused by your custom heatsink.  But by law, at least in the US, Dell would not be able to void the ENTIRE warranty just because of that modification, meaning that if you had a problem with some other aspect of the system that could NOT plausibly have been related to installing or using a custom heatsink, then Dell would have to honor that.  I don't know how warranty laws work in other countries, and of course even under that standard, the word "plausibly" is somewhat subjective.

Can't comment on the question about reselling Dell systems.

Hi @terrylu7121  your questions are of a commercial nature and inappropriate for posting in the Dell Community user to user forum.
