x15 R2, BIOS 1.30 caused EC failure
Dear Dell Support Team,
I am writing to formally raise a concern regarding my Alienware x15 R2 (out of warranty).
Issue summary:
Immediately after updating the BIOS to version 1.30, the internal keyboard and touchpad stopped working at the same time. An external USB mouse works normally.
This issue occurs before Windows loads and is present at BIOS / EC level.
I have already rolled back the BIOS to version 1.27, reset BIOS defaults, and performed EC power drain.
None of these steps resolved the issue.
This clearly indicates an EC firmware initialization failure triggered by BIOS 1.30, not a keyboard or touchpad hardware fault.
My concern:
Despite multiple contacts with Dell support, I have not been able to reach a technical specialist or engineering-level support. I am repeatedly advised to replace the keyboard, which does not address the root cause and would not explain why both the keyboard and touchpad failed simultaneously after a BIOS update.
I am willing to pay for repair, however I am requesting professional EC firmware recovery / service mode reflash as the correct first diagnostic step, rather than replacing parts without confirming the firmware state.
I would like this case escalated to Level 2 / Engineering Support or the Out-of-Warranty Advanced Repair Team,
who can properly assess EC firmware issues related to BIOS updates.
Please advise how I can proceed with an engineering-level paid repair in the UK (London area).
Thank you for your attention.

Dell does not do that level of diagnostic or repair. If you think you need it, contact parts-people.com, which can do that for you before replacing the mainboard.
