x17 R1, internal keyboard not working

Alienware x17 R1

Alienware x17 R1

Hi All,

I normally use my laptop with external keyboards and recently was starting to use the internal keyboard. All of a sudden the internal keyboard fully stopped working. The internal mouse/touchpad still works though.

1- FN + F1 (surprisingly, it responded to this); I saw something online where pressing combo of FN + F1 would do something and it did indeed temporarily work fixing the internal keyboard for a few moments. I kept on pressing the combination every few minutes until I finished what I needed to do. Then, it just stopped working so, that combo option does not work anymore.

2- Restarting; I tried restarting, but that did not fix anything.

3- Device Manager; I had two HID Keyboards (assuming those are the external ones I connect to) and one PS/2 keyboard, I uninstalled the PS/2, laptop automatically forced me to restart to complete and it seems like it might have automatically reinstalled device/drivers on restart, because when I went back to Device Manager it was still there and updated like it was before I tried uninstalling.

What other things could I try, any thoughts as to what might be root cause?

If you have not tested the Keyboard firmware updates, please do so and let us know.

* Go here
* Insert your private Service Tag
* Click Search
* On the right under, "Quick links", click View product specs
* Find your keyboard
* Click the down arrow to expand
* Look for either Cherry or Per Key

Once you have identified the keyboard, download and install the correct firmware shown below =

Alienware Cherry Keyboard Firmware Update Utility

Alienware Per Key Keyboard Firmware Update Utility

When finished, restart the PC and retest.
