x17 R2, desktop keeps refreshing on boot up
Alienware x17 R2
For the last three days as soon as I log into Windows 11 Pro the desktop repeatedly refreshes and I have no icons on the start bar.
I booted with F12 and went into SupportAssist where the laptop passed all hardware diagnostics.
I then restored the system back to 29 April, close SupportAssist and the system restarted without any problem. However when I then shut down the laptop later it took an age as if something was updating. When I restarted the laptop the desktop refreshing problem was back.
I'm looking for a more permanent fix because as time goes on I won't have that restore point to go back to.
The problems seems to have occurred following a sneaky update to MS Edge - I base this on the fact that after I restored back I got a pop up saying something about MS Edge 2 file already existed - plus MS Edge updates without telling users!
One other thing I noticed is that it takes a lot longer before the Windows 11 Spotlight screen appears and there are none of the usual Microsoft text/links round the screen only the basic log in box in the middle and icons bottom right.
Can anyone help.
Regards

To receive assistance from Dell support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private Service Tag and all of your troubleshooting.

Turns out, the last thing that installed was the new Alienware Universal Windows update, 4.9.0.
Couldn’t get a stable enough desktop to run CMD and windows repair tools couldn’t fix it. Reset system.
