x17 R2, Nvidia control panel black screen
Alienware x17 R2
Hey guys,
I need help here. I have this issue ever since NVIDIA released driver version 535.98 and the 536.23 (latest version). When I change my display mode on the control center from optimus/automatic to NVIDIA GPU ONLY it goes to black screen. Driver version 532.03 works fine i can change my display mode but I would like to use the newest update. Does anyone have the same issue? Can yall help me with this. Honestly the performance is not as strong as GPU ONLY. On Siege I got like 350-400 ish fps average usually but without the gpu mode i get like 209-295 Fps.
Thank you

Since this issue occurs with the NVidia driver have you tried the Dell driver dated April 24 of 2023 as posted here.

Hello @crimsom ,
So I updated my driver to the latest version but I still have my issue. When I change display mode from Automatic/Optimus to NVIDIA GPU ONLY, I still get a sound then my screen goes black.

Hey Equinox- I have the same issue with my X17R2 and it's very annoying. I had to go back to Nvidia Driver 531.79 to get the Advanced Optimus (automatic switching) or even default setting the dGPU to be on in NVIDIA Control Panel, to work without getting the black screen. Its absolutely ridiculous that Dell and NVIDIA can't get this worked out, when there have been 3 driver updates since that version. However, at least you know which one to install. You can get it from the search feature for drivers on NVIDIA's website. Hope this helps and we can get back on the latest drivers soon, again.

Hey @Joshienware
It is just the latest driver that is not working or does it start from 535.98? I really hope Dell/Alienware and Nvidia can fix this as soon as possible. It has been almost 2 months for me. And there has been like 3 new drivers.

Note, I confirmed this is still occurring with 536.40.

I am having this exact issue (GPU Only mux not working with latest NVidia driver) with this exact laptop (X17 R2). That's two confirmed cases.
Can we get an ETA on when Dell/NVidia will fix this?

I reverted to the Dell version: NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3060-3080-3070-Ti-3080-Ti-Graphics_MF9CJ_WIN_31.0.15.2879_A07_02
This version works, but obviously we need the latest drivers for new games (e.g., trying to play SW Survivor, you will receive an error message that you should upgrade your driver due to errors with the legacy driver).

Are you able to use the driver 536.23 on this version? Can you change display setting from optimus to NVIDIA GPU only?

I have been having this same problem since May. I have tried every game ready driver after 532.03. When going GPU only I get the black screen or it just freezes. Only workaround I have is reverting to 532.03.

I can confirm that this issue has not been resolved in the latest Nvidia release. I sure hope Dell works with them to figure out what is going on.
