Bare metal restore using Avamar

With Homebase going away, can Avamar support bare metal restore?

Yes. there is an option for windows systems only. See page 65 of the EMC avamar 6.0 for wndows server guide.

Please mark this question as answerd and this answer correct. Do you require BMR for NIX?

Hi se7en,

I have reviewd the document but it is not talking something I am looking for.  It is not clear from the document if it can be used like a Syspreped image.  Ideally I am looking for restoring to new VMs created with blank VMDK files.

It sounds like you may be trying to use Avamar as a templating system for deploying VMware Virtual Machines. Are you aware of Virtual Machine Templates? These may be better suited to what you are trying to do.

There is a process in the avamar for VMWare guide on performing redirected VM restores.

That is certainly a good one.  But it limits to virtual machines.  As Avamar can backup any machine that has a client installed, ideally I would like to know if there a platform independent bare metal restore including non virtual machines.  But I will consider your suggestion definitely.

Is it on the same Windows Guide for Avamar?

Will Avamar supports Bare Metal Recovery for Linux running on physical server.
