Partial backups are not found in Restore tab

Hi,

we have a client backup that completed with exceptions. exceptions are those files that are being used by a different process, so avamar couldn't back them up. rest of the data is backed up. and, when i go to backup and restore tab and check for that client's data to restore, i couldn't see any data for that specific client.

So, when Avamar runs a partial backup .. wont the data appear in Backup and Restore tab .?

Regards,

If the backup completed with exceptions, it should be visible in the GUI. If the backup failed, that would be a different matter. This backup may not appear on the day you're expecting if it ran past midnight.

Also, what you're describing is not a partial backup in Avamar terms. A partial backup in Avamar is a backup that is a piece of a larger backup that is not individually restorable (e.g. the backup for a single SQL database) or a backup that finished with "Timed Out-End" because it did not complete before the end of its scheduled backup window. These types of partial backups are not restorable and do not appear in the GUI.

ok. but,i ran an on demand backup yesterday during day hours and i could the see the backup logs in activity window. but, when i checked for the data today, the restore tab is empty.

then ,i ran an individual file of that client and can see that file in restore tab. the problem occurs when full backup runs with exceptions. what could be the reason

Some error can prevent backup to be created successfully. Can you attach the full backup log file?

Partial backups will not show under Restores in Avamar, as there is not much useful data. Partial backups only occur when the backup fails midway and will be deleted from Avamar after  a specific time.

Also, one thing to mention here... the problem occurs only with VSS backup.

will reboot of the server resolve the error avtar Error <5139>: File access share error(code 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process)

I didn't see any log file attached. The error that you highlighted usually points to either an unsuccessful VSS snapshot or a VSS snapshot was deleted during backup (caused by VSS storage quota in most cases)

Hi again,

the issue is reoccurring and below is the error log. we tried patching the server and rebooting it. it worked for a while but again it throws the below exceptions. when we check the writers status, some writers are not stable and are in waiting to completion state and at times the system writer itself was not present causing the DR backup to fail.
