VM backup group configuration.

My VM backup group has 20 clients and 2 proxies in it. Can I control the backup group/Policy such that clients 1 to 10 takes proxy1 and remaining takes proxy 2?

No chance of creating 2 groups because we are using container clients to import from Vcenter.

Hi Dileep M,

I don't think this is possible within 1 group.

Are the proxies in the group 2 different proxies (VM's) or are they 2 of the same VM proxy?

Why do you wan't the backups divided in such a way?

Daniel

VMs will be assigned to proxies based on a few factors, including proxy availability, transport capability (hotadd vs. NBD), and "affinity" (a VM will be assigned to the same proxy where possible). Manually load balancing between proxies seems counter-productive to me. If the first 10 VMs finished faster than the other 10, one of your proxies would be sitting idle while there were jobs sitting queued waiting for a proxy.

What is the reason behind wanting to split the VMs between proxies this way? What's the goal?

Thank you for your responses.

We have imported a container from the Vcenter to the avamar(20 clients). we have datastores of 1MB and 8MB block size. If a proxy deployed on 1 MB datastore tries to backup a client on 8MB datastore, backup is gettign failed viceversa. I really wonder if anyone see this king of issue in avamar backup environment. So checking if I have any option to have a VM and proxy mapping.

@Ian anderson: I can text you the SR created with EMC.

If the proxies are on different datastores, I'd recommend that you select only the datastores the proxies are capable of backing up in the proxy to datastore mapping in the Avamar Administrator.
