Can't figure out interface numbering

Hi,

I have a M1000e Chassis with six I/O modules.

My questions are:
- Can the Fabric A include Dell PowerConnect 8024-K? Somewhere in Dell documentation was stated, "This switch may be installed in either Fabric B or Fabric C."

- The switch-1 (8024-k) shows the following interfaces:

Te1/0/1                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Active
Te1/0/2                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Active
Te1/0/3                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/4                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/5                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/6                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/7                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/8                                          N/A     Unknown  Auto  Down   Inactive
Te1/0/9                                          Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/10                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/11                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/12                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/13                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/14                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/15                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/16                                        Full    10000    Auto  Up     Inactive
Te1/0/17                                        N/A     N/A      N/A   Detach N/A
Te1/0/18                                        N/A     N/A      N/A   Detach N/A
Te1/0/19                                        N/A     Unknown  Auto  Down   Inactive
Te1/0/20                                        Full    10000    Off   Down   Inactive
Te1/1/1                                          N/A     Unknown  Auto  Down   Inactive
Te1/1/2                                           Full    100      Auto  Up     Inactive

Please correct me if I'm wrong, ports 1-16 are for blade servers. Port 17-20 external ports. Can you explain what the Te1/1/1 and Te1/1/2 are?

As @DELL-Chris H  stated, your unit probably has the additional modules shown in the attached image.

User02830,

You are correct that the Dell PowerConnect 8024-K switch can be installed in either Fabric B or Fabric C, as stated in the documentation. However, it's not explicitly mentioned that it can be installed in Fabric A, so that being said I would assume it isn't supported, but I can look into it further.

Moving on to the switch-1 (8024-k) interfaces, you are mostly correct in your understanding that ports Te1/0/1-Te1/0/16 are for blade servers, and ports Te1/0/17-Te1/0/20 are external ports. However, it's worth noting that some of these ports may be capable of being used for both blade servers and external connections, depending on the specific configuration and requirements.

Regarding the Te1/1/1 and Te1/1/2 interfaces, these appear to be 10GbE and 1GbE ports, respectively. The Te1/1/1 port is shown as being in an unknown state, and the Te1/1/2 port is shown as being in an inactive state, but with a speed of 100 Mbps. It's possible that these ports are not currently being used for any active connections, or they may be reserved for future use or specific applications. Without more information about the specific configuration and requirements of your M1000e chassis and PowerConnect 8024-K switch, it's difficult to provide more specific guidance on the purpose of these ports.

Let me know if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H thank you for your clear explanation. Now I know the ports I asked about, are the expansion modules installed on the switch.

On page 14 of this and page 22 of this Dell document, it seems the 8024-k can be placed in A bays, right? It is somewhat confusing why elsewhere they only specify Fabric B and C.

@DELL-Rey G Thank you! You are correct, the ports are expansion modules added to the switch.

@DELL-Rey G While @User02830 answer also helped me grasp the bigger picture, your answer was more accurate regarding my confusion about the ports.
