Too much data for an asynchronous intital synch

The existing link would take too long for the intial NAS synch. There is talk about backing up to tape then restoring at target but target is in India and we think it would be messy, aside from asking the client for more bandwidth or shipping drives to India what else could we do ?

thx

there really isn't much magic you can do there

fs_copy will only copy the used blocks - if you think even that is too much for the link then you can do:

- tape transport - these are specially made backup tapes - basically a kind of an image backup

- disk transport - send a Clariion with the data - only if you do have gateway Celerras

-look into a device that does IP optimization and compression

Or replicate an empty file system and add the data piece by piece

if you consider that make sure you talk to your EMC SE - there are solutions sold by EMC like netex HyperIP http://www.netex.com/products/hyperip.html as well as other tested partner solutions

since Replicator itself doesnt do any compression and might also transfer partially used blocks there is some room for improvement there
