Over Temperature sensor ?
Folks,
Does the Centera have an over temperature sensor in it, so that if for some reason the air handlers in the computer room fail, the Centera would sense that things are overheating and then shut down to avoid serious damage?
If not, then
a) would EMC consider adding this? or
b) is there a way through the API to shut down the Centera, so that when my Unix box sees the problem, it can connect to the Centera, stop replication and then shut it down as the Unix box is going through it's own shutdown.

As not everyone has access to the global services version of the Centera Tools mentioned below let me answer as follows.
CentraStar has over temperature sensors implemented. The C* 4.0 documentation lists them:
There are two alerts, each with its own symptom code:
4.1.1.1.01.01: The temperature is higher than 66 degrees Celsius. (Warning)
4.1.1.1.01.02: The temperature is higher than 86 degrees Celsius. (Error)
Monitoring the alerts of your systems should reveal if you have an over temperature situation or not.
Holger- So the Centera will notice that it's getting too hot, but will not (at some point) automatically shut itself down?
Is there a way to do the shutdown through an API call rather than using the Centera Viewer/Tools? These systems are in a shall we say "closed" or "dark" network (i.e. no outside access) so doing things remotely is a very tough option to implement.

The API is used for data access.
There is the possibility to script the CLI calls using one of the executables installed with the Centera Tools.
Shutdown is one of the commands you can use in the CLI. You do not need to open Centera Viewer.
But in any case you will need the network connectivity to perform the shutdown (like you would need with Centera Viewer). In a CE+ environment you would not be able to perform a remote shutdown. In any other you should be able to.

customer is asking me if we do monitor temperature and if there will be an automatic shutdown of the Centera initiated from the firmware.
from discussion above I see, a) yes, we do monitor and generate warnings and errors if temperature exceeds values and b) no, there is no automatic shutdown.
Since discussion is from 2009 I would like to ask the experts if anything has changed in the meantime.
