Hosts Parallel Access To Storage

Dears,

this is not a problem that i have or an issue that im facing but rather this is something i was thinking about and i aapreciate any help on this issue.

the issue is concerning NFS and the limitation of the single point of faluire, we all now for diffrent hosts to be able to access a single lun on a Storage Device this should be mounted on a single host and other hosts will map to this lun through this Host, but this create a single pint of failure if the host it self goes down or and also a limitation since all read and write of the other srevers will be over the network.

My question is # 1: is there any way or work around to eliminate this single piont of failure with out using any cluster services and if possible give read, write access to the other hosts directly through SAN not LAN?

question number #2: actually i was reading about pNFS and looks like it dose eliminate the above problem, but its too new and i dont know if its bug free yet, have any body tried it?

thanks
mohannad

a1: no work aroud for this because the file system journaling will be mssed up.

a2: go to pnfs.com there you will find all the posts you need , but in my opinion it needs a year to be stable.
