SC4020 SCOS License

Hi,

We are experiencing a critical issue with our Dell SC4020 that we have been unable to resolve through standard support channels.

After resetting the unit, we lost access to the license, and we cannot retrieve it through the Digital Locker. Despite multiple attempts, we are still unable to access the license we originally purchased.

For the past three weeks, we have been transferred from one Dell agent to another, only to be told each time that the license cannot be found.
Yet, the support agent confirmed that he can see the license on his end, but is unable to send it to us.

He informed us that we would be contacted within 24 to 48 hours to either receive the license or obtain access — but someone reaches out, we are simply provided with the Digital Locker link, as if we hadn’t already tried it.

We have repeatedly explained that:

  • The system was originally installed by a Dell technician.

  • The Digital Locker only shows the last three years of licenses.

  • This specific license was purchased in 2015 and therefore does not appear there.

Our support contract ended in June 2022, but Dell has a procedure in place to recover lifetime-paid licenses. What is extremely frustrating is that no one seems able to help us, and we are now being asked to pay again for something we already purchased.

We do not require support — we only need access to the license that belongs to us. The recovery process currently in place is not working.

Could you please escalate this issue and assist us in retrieving our license?

Thank you.

As a Dell reseller and Compellent installer i can say that in those days the Digital locker wasnt common at this time. It may also be depends on the region where you are located.

The Lics at this time comes with the installer or the Partner by e-mail.  There was a pre-6.7 one and a post-6.7.  A partner was entitled to download the lics for a certain time from the compellent quote center.

The days of the compellent copilot support is gone ages ago :(

Did you buy it from Dell or a Partner? If you are a customer did you have a Account Manager(depends on company size..)

If you send me a PM with your two HSN an the STAG i can try to send e-mail to at least one guy which iam aware which is left on dell. It would be help if youre located in europe.

Regards,

Joerg

@Origin3k

I received the licenses.
I spoke with several people at Dell, and one of them actually mentioned this method to me.

However, I am now facing another issue. Just two steps after adding the licenses, I need to import or generate the SSL certificates, but neither option works. No matter what I try, I get an error message.

For reference, my controllers are running version 07.04.21.004 and DSM - 2020 R1 22

Hello,

Let's use the forum on this new issue.

Common causes could be:

Incorrect certificate format (must be Base64 PEM for import).

Missing DNS name/IP match between certificate CN and Storage Center management IP.

Attempting certificate operations without Administrator role in Storage Manager.

Using unsupported browsers or Java versions for the certificate wizard.

Resolution Steps

Generate CSR and Import Certificate

In Storage Manager → System → SSL Certificates:

Click Generate CSR.

Submit CSR to your CA.

Import the signed certificate in PEM format.

Ensure the certificate includes the full chain (server + intermediate + root).

Self-Signed Certificate

If generating internally, use Generate Certificate option.

Confirm the CN matches the SC4020 management IP or FQDN.

Restart Management Services

After import, restart the Storage Manager client or SC services if prompted.
