Brocade General Questions: Fabric Port Name vs Permanent Port Name

Hi,

I am trying to figure out which is the WWPN for soft zoning. Not sure why Brocade couldn't standardize their output using WWPN & WWNN instead. I am assuming the WWPN is the PermanentPort Name because that's the only WWN that allows me to use when I run a nodefind 10:00:00:05:33:21:4a:a3.

In the GUI under the Zone Admin, under the Member Selection List, creating aliases just checking which is best practices, Do you select the Parent or the Child when creating the alias?

Fabric Port Name: 20:09:00:05:33:33:02:42
Permanent Port Name: 10:00:00:05:33:21:4a:a3

Is the Permanent Port Name hard zoning or soft zoning

Thanks

Hello macyero,

If you are wanting to use soft zoning then, you will use the Fabric Port Name.  If you are wanting to do hard zoning then you will use Permanent Port Name.

Hi Sam,

Thank you for the information. I still need clarification on Fabric Port Name & Permanent Port Name. Seems Brocade decided not to go with the general convention of using WWNN / WWPN. I have tried researching this and checking Brocade's site and have gone through many PDFs. I still have yet to find anything that explains this. Is a Permanent Port Name a WWPN and a Fabric Port Name a WWNN? Any help is greatly be appreciated

Best Regards,
