Connectrix Manager and changing zone members

I am trying to find out why when i update a nickname in Connectrix manager, i still have to manually change zone members manually ? I am so used to brocade and Cisco fabric manager where i can update an alias with new WWN and that's it , but in Connectrix Manager even though i utilize nicknames when i build my zones, i still have to go and manually remove old WWN (at that point nickname is not there anymore) and then add the nickname. I thought the point of using nicknames was to eliminate the need to touch every single zone once you have to replace an HBA ? Am i doing something wrong ?

Thanks

On McData directors soft zoning is done via WWNs. So if you change the nickname of an existing WWN, the nickname will be updated in the zone. However, if you change out a HBA and give it the same nickname, you will have to update the zoning as you mentioned. That's just how they work.

There is a shortcut that makes it easier. When you are in the zoning screen, you can right-click on a WWN/Nickname and then click on "Replace All...". You then choose the WWN or Nickname to replace it with. This will do a global "search and replace" operation and will change all zones with one step.
