Migrate zones from 6510 to DS-7720

Hi

i am migrating from Brocade 6510 to 7720, i have been searching but cannot find out if having the old switch on firmware version 8.1.2j and the 7720 on 9.0.1a is supported so the zone information can flow from the old switch to the new?

also if anyone has some information or guide how to connect the new switch to the old fabric and if there is something to do or check before connecting ISL between them.

BR

Hello Ingvar,

You will need to be at FOS v8.2.1d or 8.2.2a in order to migrate over.  Here is the link to the release notes for Connectrix B Series Fabric OS version 9.0x which has some additional information. https://dell.to/3vGWW1J

Thanks Sam, this will help me in this migration.

also about the actual migration procedure if you can assist me, i have found very little about the procedure but with the information i have found i was wondering if this is step in right direction:

1. be sure that new switch has correct license

2. check if firmware is compatible

3. assign switch id on the new switch that is lower than existing switch

4. disable the new switch

5. connect ISL links between switches

6. enable the new switch

7. check if zoning information has transferred to the new switch

8. run command on old switch to set principal as lowest priority “fabricprincipal -enable -p 0xff -f”

9. run command on new switch to set principal as highest priority “fabricprincipal -f 1”  that would trigger fabric rebuild.

10. verify that new switch is the principal switch in fabric

11. run this on old switch “fabricprincipal –disable”

12. move fiber channel cables one by one over to the new switch ( some path will go out in the meantime )

13. remove ISL connection from switches

14. check zones and hosts connections.

Hello everyone and thanks for the steps for migrating zones.

Is there any way to do this without a fabric license?
I just want to migrate the config from two old single switches to two new single switches.

Thanks

Hello itmark,

You do need to have a fabric license in order to migrate over your zones.
