Replacing 8g Brocade SAN Switch with 16G which has ISL connection
Hi Support,
we have 2 Data centers(DC1 and DC2) the ISL is connected between DC1(16G-SAN Switch) << to>> DC2 (8G-SAN Switch), now i want to replace 8G Switch with 16G.
ON DC2 8G SAN Switch got another 2 Switches connected (via ISL). The same setup at Fabric A and Fabric B.
i am planning to add 16G SAN Switch at Fabric B first, if i replace 8g with 16G will it effect other 2 SAN Switches connected?
may i know the best practice to do this?

Hello santhumax,
If you have all configured with your 16gb switch as your 8gb switch all should be fine. As always make sure that all host & storage are failed over to other fabric and then fail back one at a time to ensure that connections are good and stable. If you have any connections that fail, then you may need to reregister them.

Hello santhumax,
It is best to open a support case for this as we will need to gather additional information in order to provide you the most accurate steps for doing your switch upgrade.

Hi Sam,
thanks for the response,
what might go wrong here if i swap the ISL cables from the 8G Switch to new 16G Switch?
i have already configured the 16G new Switch same as existing 8G switch. (ISL Ports, switch settings, trunking etc)
Regards,
Santhosh

Hi Sam,
was just something before perfuming the activity and just realised the 8G Switch which connected to another DC via ISL has Domain ID 1. if i disconnect the ISL before i swap to 16G switch will it affect the fabric in anyway?
Regards,
Santhosh

Hello santhumax,
If you don’t have a second fabric then yes your DC will be affected.

Hi Sam,
Good Morning,
Yesterday i tried to SWAP the ISL Cable from 8G Switch to 16G Switch in Fabric B, but swaping all 5 Ports on the 16G Switch i don't see an ISL link between the DC's .
This was a unexpected surprice, i configured all the ISL ports same as on the DC 16G Switch and i am not really sure what went wrong.
THen i roll back the ISL Ports back to 8G Switch.
i have added a screen shot of BNA logs, see if you find any missing peace.
Thanks,
Santhosh

Hello santhumax,
What needs be done at this point, is to review the switch logs from both switches and see what is going on. Now if your switches were under a support contract then this would be done by opening a support case. Since your switches are not under a support contract, then you have a choice to either review them on your own or pay the out of support fee for tech support to review them and let you know what is wrong.
