Zoning and Library drives

Hello,

I'll get a library with 6 drives, how am I going to do zoning; I mean for each server am going to

create a zone with all the drives ?

Thanks

it depends on what you are trying to do. What backup software will be running in the environment ?

There is a SAN with a CX4-80, a 6 drives Quantum will be connected.

We have to install and configure the CX4, the switches and the library.

The servers connected to he San and other ones to the Lan will be backuped

onto the library with TINA Atempo software.

In addition, the aim of getting a 6 drives library is to reduce the backup time compared to

a 1 drive library they had.

Thanks

This really depends on how the software will be configured and what the goal is of buying the 6 drive library instead of the previous one (and I don't mean just backing up faster).

I hate to ask, but was there some kind of architecture put together that drove a decision to buy this specific configuration? If so it should indicate how the connections should be made. If not....

Just off the top of my head it sounds like each server runs it's own backup software. If so, you may be forced to configure each server to see only one or more drives, without sharing drives between servers. I'm not at all familiar with this software so I don't know what it is capable of. And I'm not sure how the library itself is controlled, so if there are separate instances of the backup software running different drives you may run into issues with media management in the library.

Now I'm just kind of rambling because I started out with a clear thought (or at least I thought I did) but the fursther I think about this the more I realize that without more information on the plan, architecture, library and software there really aren't any answers to be had.

We run Networker here and we have larger libraries (some with 30+ drives). In our environment some drives are dedicated to the backup servers themselves while other drives are shared between dedicated storage nodes. Other dedicated storage nodes have one or more drives dedicated just to them. But they all tie back into the core server for media and library management.
