Alienware Desktop Repair Needs HD Replacement and Data Loss

Anyone experienced having their desktop repaired by HD replacement and a complete data wipe-off. Do they give the HD back? How about data security? Is the Dell customer's data safe from this process?

Again, if it's a warranty replacement Dell will retain the drive and presumably ship it back to the manufacturer.  If you're concerned about data security, pay for a replacement drive and destroy the original yourself.

If you are paying for a repair anyway, it'll be less expensive to replace the drive yourself (by far).

If this is a warranty replacement, Dell retains the drive.  Depending on how far gone the drive is, it may not be possible to wipe it -- that will be the case if the system no longer recognizes the drive at all.

Thanks for the clarification. They haven’t specifically said that the drive is completely unrecognized or failed beyond access — only that it needs to be replaced. I’m okay with the drive being wiped since all of my data is backed up to OneDrive. My main concern is around data security and how customer data is handled if the drive is retained by Dell.
