Appalling customer experince

I bought the Dell Inspiron 13 5310 about 3 years ago, but recently its Memory failed. Because the memory is integrated, the computer is no longer useful. I am very upset at the lifetime of this machine because it only lasted 3 years, while I have a Lenvo machine that's been with me for 18 years and is still functioning. I tried to reach Customer Care to explain the situation, but Dell operator refused to transfer me to Customer Care and insisted that I speak with out-of-warranty support. Once I was at out-of-warrany support, they insisted that I pay a fee. But I already know the problem with the computer! Does Dell really stands behind this 3-year lifetime for its computers?

Consumer-grade notebooks are designed around a lifespan of about three years -- so your experience is on par with what you'll see from all of them, whether Dell Inspiron, Lenovo Ideapad, HP Pavilion, Acer, ASUS, etc.

18-20 years ago a consumer-grade notebook sold for $2K and up -- now it's in the hundreds.  You likely wouldn't see 18 years out of a business-grade notebook today (Thinkpad, Latitude, etc.) but you certainly won't see that out of a consumer disposable.

Do you work for Dell or are you an independent contributor?

Independent, but have been around tech for long enough to realize that the old adage "you get what you pay for" is more relevant every year.  You just cannot find a durable notebook computer for under about $1000-1500.
