Area-51m, orders still delayed?
I bought my Alienware Area-51m back on March 17...still hasn't shipped. Keep being told there's a "part shortage" and that I'll be notified when the order moves. Was the CPU, now it's waiting on the LCD screen. My question is, why even show the laptop in stock if the parts aren't there to assemble it? Also, for anyone who is interested in the free copy of The Division 2, I'm pretty sure the offer expires on
April 4th..considering my laptop hasn't entered production yet..not sure I'm going to be able to even claim that.
Very, very disappointed with the ordering experience. I honestly expected more from a large company like Dell. Anyone else facing the same issue?
Edit: Turns out the offer ends on April 30 for The Division 2. Just be aware if your order is delayed past that.

I just got delayed like everyone else and didn’t notice the end date for the Division 2 deal. that is frustrating as if they don’t extend it.

Just got an email:
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, your order will take longer to process and ship than previously estimated. Your new estimated delivery date is Apr. 5 - 10, 2019."
So not only will I have to wait longer for this machine, it's not even clear if I'll get my copy of Division 2. This is one of the more unfun ordering experiences I've had. If anyone is looking for an A51m, I urge you to look elsewhere as Dell clearly doesn't have stock.

Need to correct my post:
Did some more digging. That April 4th date was from Tobii's site. Looks like Dell has their own page on the deal terms and conditions:
https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln316295/alienware-area-51m-with-tobii-eye-tracking-free-tom-clancy-s-the-division-2-terms-and-conditions?lang=en
Looks like it lasts until April 30...so that's a huge relief. I will correct my original post.

My system is also Lunar White.. I think that might be why (they mentioned a CPU shortage, then an LCD shortage to me..)

Hi @legendaryskittle, @FrankieJ54, @NiemenZ
Yes, the free Tom Clancy's The Division 2 promotion ends on April 30th, here the article just in case:
https://dell.to/2TFWZof
Regarding the order delays, we are very sorry. DELL is working on getting everything ready as soon as possible. Our sincere apologies for this.

Confirmed, our order has been delayed as well. For reference:
Lunar White
Core i7-9700k
GTX 2060
144Hz / G-SYNC / Tobii
16GB DDR4 @2400MHz
Ordered on 3/12, est. Delivery is 4/3. Never in my life have I ever been disappointed by Alienware until now.

Just received a new email stating the order has been delayed until April 11, 2019. At this point I believe we are going to just cancel the order; the entire purpose was to have it before April 1 before my wife goes back to work so we could enjoy some more modern games together.
We have a Micro Center down in Marietta GA that we have shopped at before while on vacation, and they have 3 in stock. I don't care about getting a slight discount from Dell when it's going to take over a month to receive a new product; things would be different if we had been notified of the delays, but this is ridiculous.
FYI, Priority 1 is receiving the laptop. Receiving a free game to go with it is a substantially lower priority, especially when Micro Center lets you choose three free games.
EDIT: Speaking with Order Confirmation Department, they state it's a shortage of the chassis. Unless every Jim Bob and Mary Sue ordered an Area-51m during Dell's sale, I don't understand how the parts weren't ready to go, especially considering how Dell appears to have skimped out on the RAM options they are providing. They have offered to attempt to expedite the order, as Customer Care stated that my specific order actually has all the parts in and is ready to move to Production. Our issue has been escalated and a case specialist will be following up with us by April 2 (our original delivery date) to provide additional details. I will be honest, I am iffy about that call to Customer Care, as I received different answers from each team, and I'm not 100% sold on what the case specialist will come back to say.

Interesting. Yeah, I was told first that it was the CPU, and now this time around it's the LCD screen. I was also offered an "expedite" option by customer service which I took. I was not however, told anything about a follow up. I have noticed that customer support seems to want to push order modification on me (basically: switch to parts we have in stock). The issue is, I don't want to modify the order. I purchased the machine under the impression that the parts were in stock. Again, why allow me to configure the machine the way I did if they weren't available? Very disappointing. I may also go the cancel route.
EDIT: Called customer service. Was told the LCD was still in the backlog. Contradicts the info I was given that the LCD was available in the warehouse and that the machine would be in production this week. I am told now that the production will begin on ... March 31st.. a Sunday.

Checked today...order not in production. Was told April 3rd is the "estimated ship date" which is somewhat worthless when the last two estimated ship dates were delayed.
To anyone reading that is considering purchasing an A51m from Dell..don't. It's that Dell has botched the production of these machines in a big way. This has honestly been one of the most frustrating purchasing experiences I've had in a long time.
EDIT: Found some posters here that are also experiencing delays:

I am also struggling with this issue. Our order was placed on 3/13 with an original delivery date of 3-21 to 3-27. Pushed out until 4-4 to 4-9. Yesterday I received yet another date of 4/11 for delivery. I cannot seem to get a rep who will tell me what parts are backordered. I had to actually accept the 4/11 date or they would cancel my order. When I called to talk to them about if it was a true ship date, the rep got super snippy with me. If I didn't need this PC for school and I hadn't been waiting for well over a month, I would go elsewhere. Dell has never let me down as badly as they have this time. I am beyond not impressed with this at all and it will seriously make me consider recommending Dell to anyone in the future.
And I don't think they are giving us the whole picture. I have Dark Side of the Moon, 9000k and lowest video card. Just get your **bleep** together Dell and get us what we paid for!

It's "good" to know that I'm not alone.
I contacted customer support today. I am told that my order is now in production, with an estimated ship date of April 5. I hope that others orders are also put in the pipeline too.

Ordered March 10th.
Delayed 3x, BUT... Have received a drop in price by $150. I comment cause the latest delay was today - I called and was told to wait till 4-13. Truth is that this thread convinced me NOT to cancel. MOST important is hoping everyone gets a discount from their price. Dell deserves to lose heavy when they screw the public. Im particularly disrespected cause this is my 6th PC purchase from Dell in 8 months, so... you know i am upset. But - I now see this PC in a different light. The delays mean a lot of folks are buying the Area 51m. The more buys, the better chance that making upgrades will make financial sense to Dell - remember that we all moved forward to buy even though Dell made it clear that there may be no upgrade available after you have a RTX 2080... I purchased mine w/ the 2060 so that there was something to look forward to, but if a ton of these sell, it would make sense for Dell to (hopefully) rework the next generation (3060-70-80?) to please all of these buys.

I apologize, I corrected my post. Meant to type April 5th as the estimated ship date, not April 3. Will update when it does actually ship.
