Coupon not valid, then valid?

I just received in the mail a coupon and when I went to apply it the website said it was not valid.  I online chatted and the sales person said although the coupon is not expired, and the product you are looking to buy, which was a laptop carrying case, was not on the exclusions list that coupon has already been redeemed 1000 times and that was the cutoff so we can no longer accept them. So I asked if they are not going to honor and to show me their company policy that states their above statement about the coupon they said there was nothing more they could do and terminated the conversation.

One would think that when the person told me about the limited use coupon that maybe it would be listed on the coupon or the flyer itself instead of misleading the receivers of the coupon.  As it were, I tried to use the same coupon later that day and it worked fine for a different product.  Now i ask, why didn't it work for the one I originally wanted and then the person on the chat line said they are no longer working because they have reached their maxim number. . . then later it worked for me just fine.  Did they increase the numbers or was the person on the chat line trying to placate me by lying because she had no idea why it was not working either and its against company policy to say that the customer is right now-a-days.
