Delivery Question / Order Status
Hello:
I am writing concerning (what I realize from the traffic) is a relatively recent order, and seeking information regarding the status of the order sufficient to decide whether I can afford to continue trying to do business with DELL.
At the time of the order, I was told that the computer should ship within a week. I do need it. Despite several hours on the phone, various hang ups and broken redirects, and various email enquiries, I still do not have any concrete idea when (or realistically even whether) the order will ship.
I have been a loyal DELL (and Alienware) customer for decades. But the simple truth is that, if DELL is not capable of delivering a necessary piece of professional equipment in a professional, timely and predictable manner, I will have to walk around the corner to the Apple store and walk out with what I need.
If you could be so kind as to give me a realistic shipping date, that would be hugely appreciated. If that is not available, please let me know the most efficient means of canceling the order. Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Peter

Currently the estimated date of shipping your equipment is the date it will go out.
It's impossible for me, or for that fact, anyone at Dell to for see if there will be a delay in your order.
The vast majority of the systems ordered do ship on the date posted when the item was order. It's that minority that you do hear about here on the forum that might give the impression that these delays are commonplace, which isn't the case.

I ordered an XPS computer on January 8. Expected delivery was given as January 21, which I thought was rather long. Now it's the 29th, and all I have is a few e-mails telling me that Dell is very sorry, but they will be shipping …. some day. Delivery will take from 2 to 9 days, I'm informed. I would expect, as a minimum of consideration for its customers, that Dell would offer overnight shipping under these circumstances.

Thanks for the replies so far, but maybe I can clarify what I'm hoping for.
When I placed the order, the system delivery dates were 2 months for the computer (XPS 15) and six weeks for the leather sleeve and optical drive. "That's silly," proclaimed the salesman on the phone, "all of this should ship within a couple days. Must be a system glitch, call back early next week for the real story." I agreed, and completed the order.
Early the next week -- and an hour on hold being danced between different folks later -- the next guy agreed as well. Two months for the computer is worst case scenario, should ship within the week. And six weeks for a leather sleeve is obviously wrong. Again, I had to agree.
If it really is going to take DELL six weeks to put a leather sleeve in the mail, and two months to find and ship me a computer, that's fine. Nothing personal, not looking to make a production out of it, I just need to cancel the order and meet my computing needs elsewhere.
So what I am hoping for is someone from DELL who actually knows what is going on and is willing to give me a straight answer, because none of the answers I've received from DELL yet have either made sense or been correct. If this can help me reach someone with answers, that would be great. If not, so be it. One way or the other, by the end of the week I'll ever have an answer I can live with or a new computer from someplace else.
Thanks again.

We Rockstars are not Dell employees. We are volunteers just trying to help. We do not have access to the internal Dell tools to look up order delays. You will need to contact Dell Customer Service Order Support for your country. Provide to them the Dell order number. Ask them to look up the order number in the Dell "GovBasicOrderSearch" tool. That tool should provide specifics about the order delay.

Exact same thing happened to me. It's been awhile since I bought a new dell. Seems like things have changed for the worse around here. If I wasn't so set on the XPS 15 I would cancel. Still might go get a mac if I can't get it sorted.
