Unsatisfied DELL Customer

After speaking to MULTIPLE (at least 6) various levels/groups within Dell, I am not satisfied with the expected Dell response.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus (7630) on April 12, 2024. I currently have extended Pro Support valid until Apr 23, 2027.

Within the last 2-3 weeks I decided I  was going to upgrade the RAM from 16GB to 32GB.

After purchasing the RAM and was in the process of installing I noted there are no RAM slots for the memory.

I contacted Dell via online chat the late evening of 16 Dec and after about 30-45 minutes of indepth discussion, while providing my SVC TAG and photo of the inside of the laptop the Dell Rep told me the laptop has LPDDR5 RAM. Meaning it cannot be upgraded.

This information was not provided to me in Apr 2024 by the sales person I worked with.  If I had known I would have not purchased this model.

Since the Dec 16-17 chat session I have communicated with Sales, Pro Support and Customer Care multiple times, with no resolution.

I have purchased many computers for myself and organizations I do computer work for.  I have also recommended Dell to others.  This situation is unsatisfactory.

I have spoken to Dell sales and a POSSIBLE trade-in was discussed. However, the sales person (Sam) who I spoke to stated they would only offer $125.00 for the trade-in of my Dell 16 Plus toward a new laptop.

This is unsatisfactory.

Thus based on the above information, attachment, and response, I will NOT be purchasing any further Dell equipment NOR will I be referring anyone to purchase from Dell.

Be careful what you do purchase -- particularly with consumer-grade notebooks like this one, LPDDR memory is quickly becoming the standard, as it has been in the Mac world for well over a decade now.

Even business-class systems now often come with non-upgradeable memory.

Yes I see that on the laptops now as I look harder at the configurations. However, when I purchased this one I wasn't aware of what LPDDR5 RAM was.  The sales person did not inform me that you could NOT upgrade the RAM in a system with LPDDR5. Otherwise I would have selected a different system that would allow me to upgrade, if I chose to do so.
