Dell OME backup/restore to NFS (3.10.x and 4.5.x)

Hello everyone,

We are currently running OME 3.10.1 and planning to migrate to 4.5.0. While testing backups, I consistently get a “Failed” message when using NFS.

Our environment is 100% Linux, and we would prefer to use NFS for backups. However, even after reviewing the documentation, I’m unable to find the correct syntax for configuring NFS paths.

Could someone help clarify the following:

  1. What is the correct format for specifying the NFS path?
  2. Is there a way to increase verbosity or access logs that indicate why the NFS test fails?
  3. Does the appliance provide a CLI command to test NFS connectivity?
  4. What’s the recommended approach for scheduling backups from the appliance?

Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated!

Hello

I have direct links to the documentation I hope this helps:

Hello,

Below is reference information for NFS backup and restore in OpenManage Enterprise (OME) 3.x and 4.5.x, :

Correct NFS Path Format

From OME 3.10 and OME 4.x User Guides:\ Use:

<server_IP_or_FQDN>:/<exported_directory>

Example:

192.168.10.50:/omebackup

Ensure OME has read/write access to that export.

Enable More Verbose Logs

Logs are located here:

/opt/dell/ome/logs/ome.log

To troubleshoot, you can:

grep Backup /opt/dell/ome/logs/ome.log

And increase verbosity by running:

/opt/dell/ome/bin/ome_logging.sh debug

Then revert afterward to normal logging.

The Troubleshooting document in OME GUI also provides NFS “Test Now” capability.

NFS shares 5:08 time mark

Scheduling Backups

Within the OME GUI (3.10 & 4.x):

  • Go to Application Settings → Backup & Restore.
  • Choose NFS as backup target, fill in details, click Test, then Apply/Save.
  • Under Set Schedule, select Run Now, Run Later, or On Schedule.

@DELL-Charles R
Thank you for your prompt response.

The attached guide shows only https method.

I tried NFS method as per your suggestion.

However, without nfs:// the test button is greyed out

However, the system can reach the share when I test
I tried to enable FSD and add my keys to login, but getting this error

Thanks

Hi,

Have you tried using IP Address instead of FQDN?

The FSD is usually for tech support debugging and log analysis.

Hi, Thank you for the suggestion.

Tested with IP with same results

I was trying to get a shell to troubleshoot the connectivity.

Thanks
